The only difference is that your bill will be significantly smaller because your solar energy system will have generated the majority of the power you used as opposed to public generator systems. If you disconnect from the grid entirely, then your bill will disappear. However, we do not recommend this unless, as it can leave you without power should your power supply diminish.

A:By default, no. Any solar energy system that is connected to the public grid shuts off during a blackout, and therefore your power goes out along with everyone else’s. However, by installing an inverter that can “island” your home by temporarily disconnecting you from the public grid, your home’s power system can safely turn back on during a blackout. When combined with a home battery system, a solar energy system can potentially keep you powered during a blackout for hours or even days at a time.
